Lessons Worth Re-Learning

This is my journey that the LORD Jesus Christ has taken me on in my life. So don't be surprised, this is a Christian site written by a Christian. Most of us have lived our Christian lives such that if we bloomed where we were planted, we'd be mushrooms in a cave! If you would like to subscribe to this blog, please send me an e-mail.

I am just like everyone else: I make it one day at a time with a little bit of humor. The Word of God is a fire in my heart that burns all the way down to my bones and I cannot hold it back. Jeremiah 20:9

My Refuge and My Fortress

This Psalm has been one of those that I have stood on ever since I was first converted as an adult.

There was this funny story I heard about this older woman walking home at night with her bag of groceries.  A rather large man in a mask jumps out of the darkness and demands her purse.  She screams of course and yells, "I'm covered in feathers!  I'm covered in feathers!"  He immediately fled.  We can only imagine what he thought!

All kidding aside, I firmly believe that I was supernaturaly protected many times.  I used to ride motorcycles with the Christian Motorcyclists Assoc.  At the time I rode an '82 Honda automatic.  One year we were in Sturgis and I was coming back from a neighboring town where I took a test drive on a Boss Hoss trike. Wow!  (That's another story.)  As I'm riding along, a group of riders with the Hell's Angels came up from behind (they were traveling faster than me, obviously) and surrounded me.  But unstead of pushing me off the road as they were known to do, they smiled and waved, matched my speed, and rode with me to town.  They gave me respect in the way they rode and went their way.  I never felt afraid, as a matter of fact, I felt very calm and normal.  In retrospect, I believe they didn't see me at all but my guardian angel.  GOD is good, all the time!

Psalm 91  (ESV)

1)  He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2)  I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my GOD, in whom I trust."
3)  For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.
4)  He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5)  You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6)  nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7)  A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8)  You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.
9)  Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place—'the Most High, who is my refuge'—
10)  no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
11)  For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
12)  On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13)  You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
14)  "Because he holds fast to Me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows My name.
15)  When he calls to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
16)  With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation."
